In 2003, Gunnery Sergeant Mejia enlisted into the Marine Corps where he served as an Administrative Clerk, Intelligence Analyst, Recruiter, and Security Manager throughout his 20-year military career. He served in Iraq in 2005 for one year then served another tour in the same region for seven (7) months in 2007. GySgt Mejia volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan in 2009 before receiving orders to serve as a Recruiter for the Marine Corps. He started attending American Military University in 2012 where he obtained his associate degree in General Studies in 2016. GySgt Mejia continued his education and earned his Bachelor of Arts in American History with honors (Summa Cum Laude) in 2022. He retired from his 20-year military career in June 2023 and gradually accepted his position as the current Marine Instructor for the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program.
