Early Childhood Education Program

Early Childhood Education I

This is the introductory course for the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program. First semester, the students study the different stages of child development, from conception to age five (5). Students receive certification in Basic First Aid and Pediatric & Adult Basic Life Support as well as do basic work in the preschool lab. In the second semester, students learn the basic techniques of teaching and observing young children. Students also participate in leadership activities and develop employable skills for future job success. This is the beginning level for the students to participate and work in the preschool, which is located on campus. Students pick a child to observe and create a final report.

Early Childhood Education II

Students learn about the total learning environment, observing techniques, music, and movement. Teaching skills are more advanced in the Preschool. Nutrition and healthy lunches are studied and planned. Students go on many field trips with the preschoolers and continue to work in the Preschool.

Early Childhood Education III Internship

Students learn about organizing and running a Preschool. The students study the early learning standards and the state regulations. Students are managers of the preschool and mentors to the first-year students. They plan the menus, field trips, preschool plays, parent letters, preschool graduation, and help approve all lessons. Teacher Approval is required.
