Dance I (Beginning)

This is an introductory course for students with little or no previous dance experience. Students learn ballet, tap, musical theatre, jazz, and modern dance technique, along with theory, history and choreography. Students learn dance terminology, theater etiquette, and basic performance skills. Students also participate in the winter and spring dance recitals as their end of semester choreography project. This class meets the prerequisite for Intermediate Dance.

Dance II (Intermediate)

This intermediate course is for students with a minor understanding and comprehension for the basics of dance. Students go more in-depth with learning ballet, tap, musical theatre, hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, and modern dance technique, along with dance theory, history, and choreography. Students learn more dance terminology, theater etiquette, and proper performance skills. Students also participate in the winter and spring dance recitals as their end of the semester choreography project. Prerequisite: Dance I (full year) or permission from Instructor. This course may be repeated for credit.

Dance III (Advanced)

This is an advanced course for students with a well-rounded understanding and comprehension for all areas of dance. Students go more in-depth with learning ballet, tap, musical theatre, hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, and modern dance technique, along with dance theory, history, and choreography. Students participate in the winter and the spring dance recitals as their end of semester choreography project. They are also responsible for choreographing small group dances. Prerequisites: Dance I & Dance II or permission from the instructor. This course may be repeated for credit.

Dance IV (Elite Dance Company)

This co-ed course reinforces students’ knowledge of ballet, tap, musical theatre, hip-hop, contemporary jazz, modern, lyrical, and theatrical dance. Dance techniques and proper form are stressed. Advanced choreography is taught with students required to design and dance their own work. Dancers are required to perform in two dance concerts. They are also responsible for choreographing pieces to perform at pep assemblies, community events, competitions, recitals, and other miscellaneous events. These dancers are expected to have a large quantity of dance knowledge as well as a well-rounded background in dance. Prerequisites: Audition or permission from instructor. This course may be repeated for credit.
