AVID

Mission Statement
To close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a college and career readiness program that prepares students from kindergarten through 12th grade for college eligibility and success. Since it began in 1980, in California, AVID has grown to be part of more than 7,000 schools, including colleges and universities in 47 states as well as multiple countries around the world. AVID has impacted the lives of over 2 million students.

AVID is for all students, but targets those in the academic middle and who are usually underserved. The program’s systematic approach is designed to support students and educators as they increase school-wide/district-wide learning and performance. In AVID, students will develop and reinforce attitudes, skills, and knowledge to successfully enter and complete advanced course work. Students will learn and apply study skills and learning strategies to improve performance in all classes. Students will visit colleges and participate in team-building exercises to help them set future goals that are truly achievable.
