The CGUHSD English Acquisition Services Department provides student services in the form of English Language Development (ELD) to those students who qualify. If a student scores less than proficient on the AZELLA, he or she may qualify for up to four hours of daily ELD instruction. Areas of instruction include Reading, Writing, Grammar, and/or Vocabulary. In these courses, students focus on the English Language Proficiency Standards.
ELD Course Requirements: Beginning in school year 2019-20, the flexibility permitted in Senate Bill 1014 allows all first-year ELL students to receive 100 minutes of English Language Development (ELD) instruction per day as measured by Arizona English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA), or an Individual Language Learning Plan (ILLP), Student placement is determined by each student’s English Language proficiency level.
