(VGHS) Retiree recognition was given to Karen Smothers at the district’s Governing Board meeting on Monday, May 6. Karen has worked 12 years for CGHUSD holding only one position as Athletic Secretary/Administrative Assistant to the Athletic Director/Assistant Principal. She has worked with six Athletics Directors - Trey Chapman, Andy Luekevics, Harley Grigg, Bobby Pierce, Miguel Marrero, and Louie Ramirez. She has had so many wonderful memories over the years, she cannot mention just one. She has enjoyed working with so many good teachers, coaches, and support staff and has built lifetime friendships. Her advice to current staff is to start your day with a smile, be positive, and be happy. Each day is a blessing. She has always looked at her life as her cup being half full, not half empty. In retirement, Karen is going to enjoy each day with her husband, Gary. She is looking forward to continuing to travel and spend time with her family.
