Dear Casa Grande Union High School District Families and Staff,

First, I want to thank you for your continued support for the students and staff in Casa Grande Union High School District. We continue to become more resilient each and every day. “Persevering through difficult times creates character, and character, hope.”

Prior to the winter break, families and staff received communication that masks would be required indoors from January 4 - 14, 2022.  On Tuesday, January 11th at the end of the day, I learned that schools in Casa Grande and another school in close proximity, will learn virtually starting January 12, 2022. We can all attest that our students, families, and friends are experiencing COVID-like symptoms or in fact have confirmed COVID cases. With this information, it is important that we continue to require masks indoors for another three weeks, through February 4, 2022. Remember, the goal is to do our part to help to slow down the transition of infectious diseases so that we can conclude this school year teaching, learning, and experiencing all the wonderful, exciting events and activities planned for all students, especially seniors.

You all have been amazing! I am honored to serve you and I am so grateful for your understanding, flexibility, and support. Again, we will continue to wear masks indoors without an opt-out option until February 4, 2022. Each week we will review the Pinal County Benchmark data, the transmission rates, and the number of cases in CGUHSD schools. If we continue to work together and for each other, we increase our hopes and desires to conclude this school year with the many great learning experiences planned in all CGUHSD schools.

Sincerely,
Dr. Anna Battle
CGUHSD Superintendent

Sinceramente
Dra. Anna Battle
Superintendente de CGUHSD

December 9, 2021

Dear CGUHSD Students, Parents, and Staff,

First, the Continuity of Learning Community would like to thank you for your input on the recent mask survey. The results are as follows:
  • Survey Question: “Following Winter Break, beginning January 4 through January 14, 2022, CGUHSD is considering two weeks required masks for all students, staff, and visitors”.
  • 1696 Total Responses:    Parents - 921      Students -566            Staff members - 206
  • Response Breakdown:    Agree - 1075      Disagree - 611            Other - 2
On December 7, the Governing Board approved the recommendation to require masks while indoors at all sites for students, staff, and visitors for the two weeks following the return from Winter Break, beginning Tuesday, January 4, 2022, through Friday, January 14, 2022.

On Monday, January 17, we will resume the current requirement; masks required indoors on campus, and optional outdoors for all students, employees, and visitors, with an opt-out option, through the remainder of the 2021-22 school year.

Given the survey input, the environmental weekly benchmarks, the number of people vaccinated, and the number of staff and students who have contracted COVID-19 after holidays or extended weekends, the Continuity of Learning Committee met to determine a proposal to provide the Governing Board. The board accepted the proposal to require masks be worn inside the classrooms for two short weeks. School districts in Casa Grande have had to close classrooms and have had many students and teachers absent for extended periods of time because of COVID-19 complications, or because of COVID-19 outbreaks. CGUHSD wants to do what we can to minimize the transition of contagious diseases that infringe on the health and welfare of all, as well as do our part to ensure that student learning is not negatively impacted.

In summary, starting January 4, through January 14, 2022, masks are required for both students and teachers in classrooms. Starting on January 17, CGUHSD will return to masks being required indoors, as defined, optional outdoors, with an opt-out option. If you have already submitted an opt-out form to the school administration, you do not have to submit another one.

Thank you in advance for your support,
Dr. Anna Battle
Casa Grande Union High School District Superintendent
