Hi everyone. I am Dr. Sonia Kakkar, aka Dr. K. I am the Science Advisor at PACE. I completed my master’s degree in Science and PhD in Forensic Science from one of the renowned Central Universities of India. The government of India awarded me a Junior/Senior research fellowship, and my PhD was fully funded and sponsored by the government. I have authored and co-authored several research papers and book chapters. Science, especially Biology and Chemistry, have been my favorite subjects since childhood. I loved learning about the biological and chemical phenomena taking place in human body from a very young age. I firmly believe it was because of some phenomenal science teachers I had in school and college. Those teachers laid a strong foundation in the subject, which helped me build a career in Science. I have been into research and worked as a scientist and scientific writer, but teaching is something I enjoy the most; it gives me an opportunity to convey my gratitude to my teachers and my mother. My mother has taught for 36 years of her life and, since childhood, it was inculcated that teaching isn’t just a profession; it’s something that shapes the future of students, which eventually shapes the future of a nation. Talking about my personal life, I am happily married to an IT (Information Technology) manager and have a 4-year-old son who attends Kindergarten. While I am at work, teaching my students, I make sure to be the teacher I would want for my son. When not working, I love to cook and spend time with my family. Other than teaching, I relish gardening, singing, and practicing Yoga.
