The CGUHS Youth Alliance Club donated $400 to support the Maricopa Food Pantry on Thursday, May 19. Pictured is Jim Shoaf (Maricopa Food Pantry CEO) receiving a certificate and donation from Quincy M. (Club Secretary on the left) and Adan Makil (Club Member on the right). The Youth Alliance Club started at CGUHS in the fall of 2019 and has primarily been a student support group. They wanted a service project, this year, to help others outside the group and school and considered several worthy national organizations. Youth Alliance Club members became aware of the fire that destroyed the food and equipment at the Maricopa Food Pantry. The National Honor Society led a canned food drive that spurred interest among club members to help a local organization that gives so much to our community. The Maricopa Food Pantry operates solely with volunteer staff and by donation and does not receive government funding. They help people in our school district and far beyond, and do not discriminate or turn people away. They welcome donations from the community and help 1,200-1,500 people each week, so the need continues. Reach out if you need more information. Jim Shoaf can also be reached at 520-709-3076. The Youth Alliance Club is sponsored by Michelle Bottomley. Visit their webpage at www.cguhsd.org/cgYouthAlliance.aspx
