CG-EngineeringASUPresentation20230216 (2)

(CGUHS) CTE Engineering students traveled to ASU Prep Casa Grande to present their NASA Space Grant Project for the Arizona Space Grant Consortium. The goal of this project is for students from colleges and universities to design, construct, program, and test an instrumentation payload to be attached to a high-altitude balloon for a flight scheduled for the beginning of April. The students hope to gather data in the ozone layer as the balloon passes through and ascends into the stratosphere. In addition to a full suite of sensors, this payload will fly two biology experiments designed by Biotechnology senior Valia Kaliotzakis. Valia is the science principal investigator for this flight. Other students are responsible for the development of other systems for the payload. Sophomore Elias Razo is responsible for computer-aided design of the payload, as well as thermal and vibration simulation and testing of the payload enclosure and internal structure. Seniors Neal Allado and Jonathan Lawson are the programming and systems integration leads. Jonathan is the overall project manager for this flight. Senior Ella Barth is the electrical systems lead for this flight. Ella is also responsible for photography and the gamma ray detector on this flight. The presentation was well received by the ASU Prep students and faculty. The Cougars are advised by John Morris, CTE Engineering/CTE Software & App Design/Mathematics Teacher.
