(CGUHSD) The Governing Board presented Superintendent Lavender with an award of appreciation at the Governing Board meeting on Tuesday, November 7. They had this to say, "Superintendent Jeff Lavender has proven to this community and staff that a compassionate leader doesn't just talk about caring, but he acts. When the county data processing center communicated that they had a problem with getting checks to school districts all over Pinal County, Mr. Lavender immediately wanted to make sure we were communicating with our staff to give them fair warning about what was about to happen. He continued to monitor the situation and kept staff and board members informed. Mr. Lavender, on his own accord, drove to Florence to pick up the staff checks and was determined that no matter what time he got them back to town, the District Office would open to deliver checks to staff. The office opened at 8:15 p.m. on Friday night and many grateful staff members were there to pick up their much-needed checks. Word quickly spread around town about how the challenge was being handled from the time it first surfaced. Mr. Lavender rose above the occasion. We are so grateful for the leadership he has provided for us. Jim Rohn, entrepreneur and motivational speaker states, ‘The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant.’ This sums up Jeff Lavender very well."
