(VGHS) On Friday, February 9, Malinah Whatley, Jordan Hawkins, and Jazmine Echols visited the Arizona State Capitol for Youth Day sponsored by the Arizona African American Commission. They were given a tour of the Capitol by Representative Stacey Travers, and met with Representative Jevin Hodge and Representative Quanta Crews. Students spent time with Arizona Informant Founder Cloves Campbell. They attended breakout sessions conducted by Ms. Black Globe Lorraine Taylor, Dr. Stevanie Wynn, Coach Clarence, Radio DJ, Hotrod, and famed dancer Koko. Students met Rae Black, the woman who spearheaded the push to make Girls Flag Football a sanctioned AIA sport. Black Student Union is advised by Cedric Collins, Career Industry Electives Teacher.
