JROTC Marine Corps

For the Marine Corps JROTC cadets, physical fitness and health are critical elements of the curriculum. Additionally, cadets are taught that strength and physical health are inextricably linked to success for the group, as well as individual members. To help prove this point, on January 12, during first period on the Vista Grande Marine Corps JROTC patio deck, members from the community Yeimy Menges (Zumba Instructor) and Theresa Ellsworth (Detective) dedicated their personal time to instructing the students by hosting a Zumba session. To amplify this point, Vista Grande Teacher Ms. Jennifer Kortsen and Vista Grande JRTOC Instructor Master Sergeant Rico were showing off their moves as they and the students energetically danced and sweated to the high-tempo Latin music. Students Maricela Amado, Joseph Campbell, Ariel Gonzalez, Reilly Harp, Joel Huber, Dylan Hughes, Marguerite Kerr, Carlos Leyva, Johanna Lopez, Rogelio Marrufo, Trevor Martinez, Daniel Moya Palacios, Isabella Nelson, Adrielle Romero, Karolina Ruiz Medina, Peter Ruth, Nicolas Toscano, Lacey Wallis, and Tyler Wilkinson really enjoyed this differentiated approach to learning and exercising. The Spartans are instructed by Dr. Tyrone Hall, CWO-3 (ret), and MSgt Jorge Rico. Visit their webpage at www.cguhsd.org/vgJROTC.aspx.
