The CGUHS Robotics Team traveled to Central High School in Phoenix, Arizona, the weekend of January 7-9, to take part in workshops and the kickoff of the international FIRST Robotics Competition. In the Friday night workshops, students participated in discussions on “Game Analysis and Strategy” and “How to Create a Winning Team.” On Saturday, the students returned to Central High to gather with teams from all around Arizona to view an internet broadcast sponsored by the Ford Motor Company which introduced the game for the 2022 competition season. This year’s game, called “Rapid React” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgniEjI9cCM), is sponsored by the Boeing Corporation.

It was also announced, at the kickoff, that the Arizona Robotics League would begin at the conclusion of the FIRST Robotics competition season. The Arizona Robotics League is sponsored by the Arizona Diamondbacks and Honeywell Aerospace. The Team returned to CGUHS with a game animation and the rule book in hand and began the process of game analysis. The students tore into the rule book to determine all the ways to score and developed an overall strategy for the game. Currently, the team is developing and analyzing systems to implement their strategy.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the CGUHS Robotics Team. The Cougars are advised by John Morris, CTE/Mathematics Teacher. For more information on the club, visit www.cguhsd.org/cgRoboticsTeam.aspx.
