The Career & Technical Education (CTE) and Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology (CAVIT) Showcases were held on both campuses during the week of December 6. At each campus, nearly 1,000 10th and 11th grade students were able to speak with students enrolled in one or more of the 13 on-campus programs and the 17 programs offered to our students at CAVIT. Freshmen and 8th grade students will take tours and see other demonstrations in January.

The on-campus programs provided hands-on demonstrations highlighting each program with the help of several active students. Agriscience displayed some of their chickens. Construction Technologies gave students an opportunity to use simple and battery-operated tools. Automation & Robotics held demonstrations highlighting programed vehicles. Bioscience shared research methods. Engineering shared work and design samples. Education Professions displayed finished projects. JROTC Marine Corps demonstrated and discussed their leadership roles. Marketing shared their DECA successes and some of their retail items. Culinary Arts dressed in their chef’s coats and shared fresh baked cookies and other items. Stagecraft (Theater Tech) brought costumes for students to admire and wear. Early Childhood Education brought in games, programmable baby dolls, and other toys that attracted a crowd.

CAVIT student-ambassadors represented their campus well. After setting up their booths in a very efficient manner, students were ready for the crowd to enter. Each discussed their various programs and showed off their work-ready uniforms and equipment. The variety of programming at CAVIT differs from what we have on our campuses. CAVIT offers health-related programs including Behavioral Health, Cosmetology, Dental Assisting, Home Health, Massage Therapy, Nursing, Medical and Veterinary Sciences. Criminal Justice, Forensics, and Fire Science offer opportunities for students interested in public safety. Our students will have an opportunity to visit the CAVIT campus in January.

All involved enjoyed the opportunity to interact with potential students and demonstrate what they enjoy about their programs. Many students were able to make connections that will affect their future academic and career goals, as well as given a snapshot of the opportunities available on our campuses, because of our partnership with CAVIT.
