The cadets of Vista Grande High School Marine Corps JROTC served as Santa’s 911 force in readiness on Friday, December 3. When the Arizona City Fire Station Chief Jeff Heaton called and asked if cadets would assist with children in the community meeting Santa, the cadets were all too eager to volunteer. In fact, the cadets were more eager to meet Santa than to assist Chief Heaton. Nevertheless, children and family members from all over the area descended upon the fire station. The cadets were impressive as all adults exclaimed that they performed their tasks admirably by assisting more than 600 children for over four hours with getting through winding lines in a safe, timely, and organized manner. After all the little children had visited Mr. and Mrs. Clause, the cadets pounced upon the opportunity to share their Christmas wishes with Santa. Santa also confirmed with each cadet that they were on the “Nice” list because of their willingness to sacrifice their Friday evening and stand in the chilly night air assisting their community. The Spartans are instructed by Dr. Tyrone Hall, CWO-3 (ret), and MSgt Jorge Rico. Visit their webpage at www.cguhsd.org/vgJROTC.aspx.
