On Friday, September 10, Principal Vanessa Pierce introduced the Vista Grande High School Marine Corps JROTC Color Guard detachment cadets to the parents, community members, and entire student body of Legacy Traditional School in Casa Grande, Arizona. The event’s atmosphere reflected the solemnity of the occasion. As the music to the National Anthem was about to begin, members of the audience were asked to remove their headgear, and many placed their hands over their hearts. The Color Guard detail presented the National Ensign and Marine Corps colors while other members of the group rendered appropriate salutes during the singing of the National Anthem. The event marked the 20th anniversary and remembrance of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington D.C, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Cadets represented VGHS in exceptional fashion. The Spartan Marine Corps JROTC is instructed by Dr. Tyrone Hall, CWO-3 (ret) and MSgt Jorge Rico.
