On Thursday, January 13, during fourth period at Vista Grande High School, Pat Stolze, the Chairman of The Military Order of World Wars (MOWW), a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, and a retired JROTC instructor, informed students of an opportunity with the MOWW to attend a leadership camp this summer at Arizona State University (ASU). The camp allows students to spend a week on the campus of ASU West in Glendale, Arizona, where the curriculum focuses on citizenship and leadership. Mr. Stolze explained to 10th and 11th grade students about the uniqueness of this opportunity, and its learning and enrichment value. The camp, which typically costs $450, is an all-expense paid learning opportunity for interested students. Cadets Trev Hagen and Adam Pena (Photo: L-R) were very interested and vowed their intent to attend. As a result of cadets participating in leadership camps such as this, they learn increased leadership skills, stay engaged academically during the summer months, and return to school the following year a more competent and confident citizen-leader within the Vista Grande High School’s Marine Corps JROTC and the Vista Grande High School community. The Spartans are instructed by Dr. Tyrone Hall, CWO-3 (ret), and MSgt Jorge Rico. Visit their webpage at www.cguhsd.org/vgJROTC.aspx.
