Vista Grande High School Marine Corps JROTC cadets were handsomely rewarded with a trip to Papago Park Military Reservation in Phoenix, Arizona, on Tuesday, November 2, for their superior academic performances on first quarter grade reports. The highlight of the trip was their tour of the Utility Helicopter (UH)-60 Blackhawk while interacting with the men and women of the 2-285th Assault Helicopter Battalion. Cadets enjoyed an in-depth presentation on the history of the unit and received a guided tour, with full access, of the helicopter. The helicopter tour appeared to spark special interest in the students as pilots, aviation mechanics, and other support personnel impressed upon cadets the importance of embracing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Instructors of the Vista Grande Marine Corps JROTC, Chief Warrant Officer Hall and Master Sergeant Rico, posed with cadets (Back Row: L-R) Ullivieri Zuniga Cruz, Shelby Fulks, Logan Barnhart, Marguerite Kerr, Clayton Miller, Santana Garcia, Joel Huber, and Alexzander Neal (Front Row: L-R) Alexa Regan, Malinah Whatley, Daniel Dunaway, Chantelle Gonzalez, and Aleena Nielson stand in front of the magnificent aircraft. The Spartans are instructed by Dr. Tyrone Hall, CWO-3 (ret), and MSgt Jorge Rico. Visit their webpage at www.cguhsd.org/vgJROTC.aspx.
