VG-JROTCLectureSenatorMarkKellyRepresentativeMilitaryServiceAcademyAppointments (1)

Daniel Toperek of Senator Mark Kelly’s office lectured Vista Grande High School Marine Corps JROTC Cadets on Thursday, January 27, in the Vista Grande JROTC classroom on military service academy congressional appointments. Mr. Toperek educated students on academics, physical fitness, leadership experience, citizenship, and moral character requirements needed to receive a direct appointment from Senators Mark Kelly, Kyrsten Sinema, or a current congressional representative from Arizona. The appointment cadets are eligible to receive are to the Coast Guard, Naval, Air Force, Merchant Marine, and West Point academies. Students enjoyed the lecture as many did not previously perceive the service academies as a realistic pathway to college and career. Students (L to R) Sarah Foerster, Dylan Porter, Hailey Arp, Dominic Vandever, Daniel Dunaway, Isiah Taylor, Ariyeana Lewis, and Ullivieri Zuniga Cruz were engaged and inspired by this opportunity as they peppered Mr. Toperek with academy life and admission requirement questions. The Spartans are instructed by Dr. Tyrone Hall, CWO-3 (ret), and MSgt Jorge Rico. Visit their webpage at www.cguhsd.org/vgJROTC.aspx.
