Gehrig Dixon of Casa Grande Union High School was recognized Tuesday, December 1, as one of the Casa Grande Union High School District’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) Students of the Month during the district’s regular monthly school board meeting. Gehrig was nominated by his Engineering teacher Mr. John Morris who stated, “Gehrig has progressed through the four years of the Engineering Pathway to emerge as the natural leader. Though quiet and timid as a freshman, Gehrig has found his place as a thoughtful and competent engineer. He has mastered SolidWorks Computer Aided Design, obtaining the professional designation CSWA as a freshman and completing the SolidWorks instructor course as a sophomore. He will test for the next level of professional certification in January. Gehrig’s accomplishments include completing the rigorous curriculum of the STEM program. He is the President and Mechanical Systems Engineer for the CGUHS Robotics Team, the Director of Projects for the chapter of the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS), and the Producer of the monthly The Case for Space Podcast. These, along with his studies in English and Calculus II at Central Arizona College (CAC), keep him very busy. In his spare time, Gehrig is the lead mentor for the Villago Middle School FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Team. Gehrig’s parents are Thomas Dixon and Jamie Shallcrass of Casa Grande. Over 1,600 students are enrolled in the fifteen Career & Technical Education programs offered in the Casa Grande Union High School District. Each month a different program may nominate a student for this recognition program. Visit www.cguhsd.org/CTE.aspx.
