VG-CulinaryThanksgivingMeal20201124 (2)

VGHS Culinary Arts students, under the guidance of CTE Teacher Kim Rains and CTE Paraprofessional Gloria Ruiz, prepared a complete Thanksgiving meal for the needy through Seeds of Hope, Casa Grande. VGHS culinary students have been doing this yearly, for at least seven (7) years, with Kim Rains and Gloria Ruiz supervising the last five (5) years. During the week of November 16-23, students prepared meal items each day for the Thanksgiving holiday. Each culinary student took part in the preparation by using cutting skills learned in beginner classes, to using advanced skills, making homemade dressing, mashed potatoes, and corn pudding. Career & Technical Education (CTE) students are required to complete a designated amount of community service hours. What a great way to accomplish the hours and provide a delicious, needed meal that the community was able to enjoy! Approximately 350 people were fed. Special thanks to Mark Vanderheyden, Seeds of Hope Executive Director, for the opportunity to make a difference in so many lives.
