In Mr. Rolando Santos’ chemistry classes, students are working on a laboratory activity called “Types of Chemical Reaction”. Chemical reactions are used extensively to test, identify, and analyze a wide range of materials such as pool testing kits and forensic tests from television shows such as 'CSI'. By knowing the types of reaction, we cannot only predict the products that may be formed but also the energy absorbed or released by the reaction, changes in state of the molecules, changes in physical properties, etc. In laboratory experiences, students learn to use the tools and conventions of science. For example, they may develop skills in using scientific equipment correctly and safely, making observations, taking measurements, and carrying out well-defined scientific procedures.
