Erin Swift of Vista Grande High School (VGHS) was recognized on Tuesday, September 28, as the Casa Grande Union High School District’s VGHS Career & Technical Education (CTE) Student of the Month during the district’s Governing Board meeting. Erin was nominated by Chief Warrant Officer-3 (retired) Dr. Tyrone Hall and Master Sgt. Jorge Rico, VGHS JROTC Marine Corps Instructors, who had this to say about her: “Erin is a  proven, effective leader with tremendous capacity for growth. She is ambitious and takes initiative in the absence of guidance or instructions. She volunteered for Nationals Drill Camp at Schreiner University. Since this enriching, educational experience, she has been the cornerstone of the JROTC Drill Team and Color Guard. She personally oversees the training and development of more than 20 freshman cadets. Under her purview, the cadets have grown exponentially in drill and ceremonial proficiency. She established a culture of excellence and commitment to the teams, a feat unobtainable prior to her arrival. In addition to her contributions to this successful JROTC program, she maintains a very impressive 4.35 GPA. This exceptional cadet is second in charge of the unit, serves as Drill Team/Color Guard Captain, and is involved in Link Crew, SADD, Casa Grande Youth Alliance, SACC, Boys & Girls Club, and Writers’ Club. Lastly, she has performed countless community service hours.” Erin’s parents are Joe and Kim Swift of Arizona City. Over 1,600 students are enrolled in 15 different Career & Technical Education programs throughout the Casa Grande Union High School District. Each month, a CTE program nominates a deserving student for this honor. For more information about the CTE program, visit www.cguhsd.org/vgCTE.aspx.
