On Wednesday, September 15, CGUHS Student Council's President Kayla Riggs and Secretary Destiny Lobos joined approximately six other teenagers from Casa Grande to meet Congressman O'Halloran. They participated in a roundtable discussion with the congressman about issues facing youth in Casa Grande today. Both students appreciated his interest in what they had to say. They enjoyed the discussion, especially sharing ideas and concerns with other teens in the community and discovering that those were the same at other schools as well. Some of the discussion included interest in learning: survival skills such as how to be prepared for life after high school; more about topics such as pregnancy, substance use disorder, and mental health; more about the political process; and how youth can share their voices and be heard. There was a consensus amongst the teenagers that more youth need support, encouragement, tutoring, and mentoring. The Student Council is advised by Stacy Brady, Science Teacher.
