VGHS’s Evan Chaparro was named one of the 35 Flinn Scholarship Finalists. The application cycle, which began in August, yielded 951 applications from 209 high schools, 73 cities/towns, and 13 of the state’s 15 counties. Only 35 students remain in the running to earn one of the nation’s most prestigious merit-based scholarships. These 35 finalists interviewed in March with three-person panels comprised of distinguished Arizona leaders for an opportunity to be chosen as one of 20 Flinn Scholars. Selected scholars will earn a full-ride scholarship to one of Arizona’s three state universities. Evan, who plans to attend Arizona State University (ASU), is interested in conducting research. The Flinn Scholarship, which includes funding for tuition, housing, meals, and study abroad, is valued at more than $120,000. The Flinn Scholars will be announced in April and a recognition event held in May. Visit https://flinn.org/flinn-scholars/.
