CGUHS Robotics Team member and STEM Biotechnology junior Alora Linehan has been selected as a Dean’s List Semi-Finalist for the Arizona FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Competition. She will compete in the State Championship later this spring to become a Finalist at the FIRST World Championship in Houston later this summer. “The students who earn FIRST Dean’s List Award status as a Semi-Finalists, Finalist, or Winner, are great examples of student leaders who have led their teams and communities to increased awareness for FIRST and its mission. These students have also achieved personal technical expertise and accomplishment. It is the intention of FIRST that these individuals will continue on, post-award, as great leaders, student alumni, and advocates of FIRST.”

Additionally, the CGUHS Robotics Team earned 2nd place in the Motivate Award category. “This team embraces the culture of FIRST and clearly shows what it means to be a team. This judged award celebrates the team that represents the essence of the FIRST Tech Challenge competition through team building, team spirit, and displayed enthusiasm. This is a team who makes a collective effort to make FIRST known throughout their school and community, and sparks others to embrace the culture of FIRST.

The CGUHS mentee team, consisting of 6th graders from Villago Middle School (Titan Robotics), received the coveted Judge’ Award. “During the competition, the judging panel may meet a team whose unique efforts, performance, or dynamics merit recognition, yet doesn’t fit into any of the existing award categories.” This is Titan Robotics’ rookie year. The CGUHS Robotics Team plans to continue working with and supporting the Villago Middle School robotics program.

The next and final FTC tournament for this year will be the Saguaro Blossom State Qualification Tournament which will be held February 12-18.

The CGUHS Robotics Team is now turning their attention to the FIRST Robotics Competition, which kicked off on January 9. These are the big, 5 ft. tall, 150-pound robots that are the team members favorites to build and compete.
