DECA Thrive Award
DECA

VGHS Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) has won the National DECA Thrive Award for our Community Service Campaign and Promotional Campaign. To qualify for the Chapter Community Service Campaign, all marketing students participated in events that benefited a local charity and its clients. Maria Meza was the chairperson for this project. These events included a children’s Halloween Party and raising funds that were donated to Against Abuse, Inc. for use in creating a home-like atmosphere for their clients. The students promoted items in the school-based enterprise, better known as the DECA Store, and then donated the $300 in profit this event generated. To build awareness of DECA, both in the community and at school, members participated in events throughout the fall and early winter that included a car wash, participating in Frosh-more night for students and parents, interviewing alumni, and an invitational competition in Tucson for Marketing II students. Officers in charge of these events and responsbile for submitting documentation to the national headquarters were Mattie Bradford, Bryanna Rios, and Arielle Salazar.
