CGUHS STEM Engineering I students competed in the 7th Annual Great Cardboard Chariot Race. In this project, teams of three students were to design, construct, and race a cardboard chariot on a course set up inside the U of the school. A chariot is defined to be a two-wheeled horse-drawn vehicle. Each chariot must carry one student as the chariot “driver” and be pulled by two student “horses” as is commonly depicted. The chariots were constructed of only corrugated cardboard and wood glue. After the race, the students examined the remains of their chariots to determine the critical failure mode and subsequent failures due to tensile, compressive, sheer, and torsional forces. A written report on their failure mode analysis will be due at the end of the week. The Cougars are taught by CTE & Mathematics Teacher John Morris.
