AP Physics

Course Description

AP Physics A course is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course. Students cultivate their understanding of Physics through inquiry-based investigations as they explore topics such as Newtonian mechanics (including rational motion); work, energy, and power; mechanical waves and sound, and introductory, simple circuits. In this course, students develop a conceptual framework for modern physics and an appreciation of science as a process. The course will help students develop useful laboratory practices and the analytical skills to be successful in college-level science classes and in their future careers. Students have the opportunity to take the Advanced Placement (AP) test in the spring to earn college credit. This class earns weighted credit.

AP Physics B course is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course. Students cultivate their understanding of Physics through inquiry-based investigations as they explore topics such as fluid statics and dynamics; thermodynamics with kinetic theory; PV diagrams and probability; electrostatics; electrical circuits with capacitors; magnetic fields; electromagnetism; physical and geometric optics; and quantum, atomic, and nuclear physics. 25% of instructional time will be spent in hands-on laboratory work, with an emphasis on inquiry-based investigations that provide students with opportunities to apply science practices. Students have the opportunity to take the Advanced Placement (AP) test in the spring to earn college credit. This class earns weighted credit.
