Specialized Programs

Casa Grande Union High School District provides a continuum of Special Education and Related Services to meet the educational needs of eligible students in the Least Restrictive Environment. Special Education services can be provided in a variety of ways and many of the services are available at all schools within the district.

Supplementary Aides and Academic Supports

This program primarily serves students whose educational needs require consultative services, accommodations and modifications in the regular classroom, and/or academic supports through a resource setting. Courses within these supports include but are not limited to, ESS Math, ESS English, Academic Resource, ESS Reading, and Next Steps. All courses meet graduation requirements. Enrollment in these courses is determined and recommended by the IEP Team and/or case manager.

Severe Multiple Disabilities self contained classes

This program serves students ages 15 through 22, whose multiple disabilities and medical needs prevent them from benefiting from a program in a Less Restrictive Environment. These students typically have severe needs in the areas of communication development, motor skills, social interaction, vision and hearing deficits, cognitive delays, and medical management. Courses within these supports include but are not limited to, Functional Academics, Functional Life Skills, Functional Workplace Skills, and Community Based Instruction. All courses meet graduation requirements. Enrollment in these courses is determined and recommended by the IEP Team and/or case manager.

Child Find

Federal and state law requires that School Districts must ensure that a free and appropriate public education is available to all children with disabilities residing within the district between the ages of 3-22, inclusive, including children with disabilities who have been suspended or expelled.

Casa Grande Union High School District is responsible for identifying, locating and evaluating students with disabilities. We do this through a process we call Student Study Team.

Any teacher, parent, or other person knowledgeable about the student, who suspects that a student may have a disability, may refer the student to the Student Study Team. The person requesting the Student Study Team shall contact the site SST team leader; typically it is an assistant principal. The role of the SST is to discuss concerns about the student and recommend strategies and interventions to address those concerns and student needs. After strategies and interventions have been attempted and documented, for at least four weeks without success, the SST Team shall recommend if a student needs formal evaluation.
